Description:
Houseparent Assistant |
The Houseparent Assistant shall be a committed Christian and committed to serve under the direction of the houseparents to create a Godly Christian influence in the Ruth Harbor home; firm but loving in relationships, realizing many women may come from dysfunctional families and may have problems, deep hurts, and lack of respect for authority.
Qualifications:

Be qualified on the basis of personal character to work with the young women and have the ability to serve as part of a team.
- Be 23 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
- Have a valid driver's license.
- In the absence of the Houseparents, the assistant must be able to provide leadership and spiritual guidance to each young woman, according to specific needs.
- Be capable of maintaining a neutral position with clients on the question of adoption versus parenting their child.
- Be committed to the sanctity of human life.
- Be able to provide evidence of financial responsibility.
- Shall be empathetic towards each girl and her unique situation.
- Have had experience involving the supervision of a group of teenagers, or experience of a practical nature working with youth.
- Able to maintain confidentiality for young women and staff.
- Possess and willing to use good communication skills.
- Be physically able to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
- Live in the second floor apartment of the Ruth Harbor home.
Job Description :
- Be a team member in seeing that the philosophy, purpose, and objectives of the house are being implemented with each young woman.
- Be a supportive, loving friend to each of the young women living in the home while maintaining a professional distance.
- Set an example of a Christian woman.
- Be encouraging and help each young woman to learn to live with and adjust to the demands and blessings of the Ruth Harbor family.
- Be a team member under the direction of the Houseparents and Executive Director to see that all rules, state regulations, and disciplines of the House are followed. Day-to-day accountability is to the Houseparents.
- When on duty at the House, be an active member of the household.
- Maintain an attitude that promotes availability to the residents.
- When on duty, perform tasks under the direction of the Houseparents as needed.
- Assist young women with homework or Bible studies, as needed.
- Transport young women to medical appointments, educational, recreational, and spiritual activities, as needed.
- Complete errands (gather supplies, grocery store, gas vehicles, etc.), as needed.
- Be on call at all times to provide coverage for the home or accompany the Housemother in the event of an emergency (i.e. hospital visit).
- Assist in teaching and coordinating learning activities for clients.
- Assist in planning activities and outings.
- Attend staff meetings and special functions.
- Greet guests who come to Ruth Harbor and give house tours, as needed.
- Occasionally represent the ministry of Ruth Harbor to small groups or individuals with interest.
- Function as Ruth Harbor’s volunteer coordinator. This includes creating and maintaining an optional list of projects for volunteer assistance.
- With administrative support, maintain the list of volunteers, discover suitable projects and activities for which volunteers can be used, and coordinate volunteer visits.
